According to Niche.com, the average net cost of attendance for college is $15,542; for 2017-2018.
CollegeBoard reported average tuition rates of $9,970 for state residents attending public colleges and $25,620 for out-of-state residents attending public universities.

Tuition may seem like the most expensive cost of attending college, but it’s only a small portion of your overall community college costs, particularly if you don’t plan to live at home while you attend.
You’ll also be on the hook for supplies and equipment, textbooks, room and board, transportation and other living expenses.
Here’s how CollegeBoard breaks down the average annual cost of attending community college for the 2021-2022 school year:
‣ Tuition and fees: $3,800
‣ Room and board: $9,330
‣ Books and supplies: $1,460
‣ Transportation: $1,840
‣ Other expenses: $2,400
In total, that comes to $18,830 in annual costs.
Average Cost of Community College by State
Without room and board, the average cost of a public college in the United States is $9,970 for in-state tuition and $25,620 for out-of-state tuition.
According to the data, New Hampshire has the highest in-state tuition of $16,070, which is approximately $3,500 higher than the out-of-state tuition of $12,480 in South Dakota.
Wyoming has the cheapest in-state tuition, at $5,220.
In comparison, Vermont had the highest out-of-state tuition and the most expensive average tuition on the list, with a price tag of $38,990.
