We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Communications Designer

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Job Type: Full Time

Overview

  • Reboot is seeking an Abuja-based visual designer to help our team create communications products for client project-based and internal needs. Our ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio of visual design work, including both print and digital design, and a proven track record of delivering error-free, high-quality work on time, even under fast-paced deadlines. He or she will also be a skilled verbal and written communicator, able to work with diverse and geographically-dispersed teams to collaboratively create designs that make complex concepts accessible and interesting to a variety of audiences.
  • This is a full-time position based in Abuja, Nigeria, with the possibility of limited project travel (less than 10% of total time, most likely to other parts of Nigeria, and possibly to other African countries).

Responsibilities
General Communications Design (40%):

  • Support the creative visual design process for internal and client projects, in close collaboration with our program, content, and design teams in Abuja and at our headquarters in New York, USA
  • Create clear and compelling print and digital materials to present complex qualitative and quantitative data and concepts
  • Maintain company photo archives and drive photo editing, intake, and archiving processes
  • Develop templates for communications collateral, including proposals and presentations
  • Contribute to maintenance and upkeep of company website Reboot.org
  • Support Reboot’s efforts to establish and maintain consistent brand standards
  • Interface with the external design community to remain current on industry trends, and ensure Reboot’s outputs are informed by current design culture and conversations

Client Projects (40%):

  • Lead the visual and communications design process for Abuja-based client projects
  • Study design briefs and determine requirements in close collaboration with the project team and other communications staff
  • Integrate with the project team to learn from those with a deeper understanding of context, in order to create contextually-informed project deliverables
  • Identify opportunities in which design can enhance the project, or better communicate the project’s objectives, and work with the project team to collaboratively develop the concept

Process Innovation & Knowledge Management (20%):

  • Contribute to the development of visual design-related internal processes within Reboot to improve organizational agility, efficiency, and impact (for example, these processes could relate to how we take and organize photographs; how we coordinate on visual design projects between Abuja and NYC offices, etc)
  • Ensure quality control and uniformity across the Abuja office for Reboot-branded communications collateral, including templates and slide decks

Professional and Personal Attributes:

  • Passion for using visual communication to convey complex ideas in the service of positive social change
  • Demonstrated interest in finding creative ways to address social and economic problems, and creating opportunities for all people—especially poor and marginalized communities—to succeed in life
  • Demonstrated ability to operate flexibly and find creative solutions to achieve results in frequently changing circumstances
  • Enjoys working collaboratively in a team environment; is empathetic in approach to collaboration with others
  • Ability to work and make quality decisions under tight time constraints while adapting to changing priorities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field; preference for a degree related to visual design or one of Reboot’s areas of work
  • At least 3 years experience working as a visual/ graphic designer in a professional capacity, ideally for a range of types of clients including non-profits, NGOs, and companies
  • Proficiency and knowledge of creative tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite—particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and programming and communications tools (e.g. WordPress, Squarespace, MailChimp). Familiarity with web development technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc.) is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at working in-person and remotely with geographically-dispersed teams (via phone, video-conference, and messaging software)
