University of Waterloo Admission Requirements
Are you applying as a High school or transfer student? Or Interested in graduate studies? Then see the requirements for each below and how to apply.
If you plan to be a full-time Waterloo student, you’ll apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC), which handles applications to each of Ontario’s universities.
If you’re currently registered in an Ontario high school, you’ll apply using the OUAC 101 application.
All other students are to use the OUAC 105 application for full-time studies.
If you’re interested in part-time or online studies, there is a separate application process.

General Requirement for Admission into The University of Waterloo
University of Waterloo General requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses, including all required courses
- Grade 12 U or M courses must be completed through schools that are accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
- Admission averages depend on the number of applications received and the number of spaces available. The range listed above is based on previous years.
- Repeated courses may be taken into consideration depending on the program.
University of Waterloo GPA Requirements
The needed GPA requirement for the University of Waterloo is the GPA that can gain you admission into the school.
Since the University of Waterloo has not reported any average GPA applying students, then, we could not calculate an average GPA. But a Google search is advised, to check if any release of GPA as been made by the institution.

*For any courses taken outside of your regular day school, arrange for your school to send your grades to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre as soon as your mid-term and/or final grades are available.
Documents such as recommendation letters, letters of achievement, and non-academic certificates will not be reviewed as part of the admissions process, and we discourage you from submitting these types of documents. You can mention any relevant achievements or awards you’ve received on your Admission Information Form.

We admit first-year students for the term starting in September only. A deadline may be extended if a program is not yet full. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed only if spaces are available. Deadlines for international students are the same as those listed above. Different deadlines apply to part-time studies and online learning as well as exchange students. |
University of Toronto Acceptance Rate
The University of Waterloo Acceptance Rate is 53%. Moderate selection is done by the school; for every 100 students applying for admission, 53 is taken. The school expects you to meet their requirements for GPA and SAT/ACT scores, but they’re more flexible than other schools. If you exceed their requirements, you have an excellent chance of getting in. But if you don’t, you might be one of the unlucky section that is not admitted.
