Persepolis 1 (2000) and Persepolis 2 (2001) by Satrapi were published in France; when they were translated into English in 2003, they were combined to form Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood.
She employed a minimal, German Expressionist-influenced visual language in Persepolis to depict the tale of her upbringing in Tehrn.
