President Bola Tinubu suspended Godwin Emefiele as Central Bank Governor with immediate effect on June 9, 2023, according to a statement issued by Mr. Willie Bassey from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The suspension was a result of an ongoing inquiry into his office as well as proposed reforms in the economy’s banking sector.
